SORGHUM

Sorghum is a whole grain grown locally. It is our staple food. There are four products of sorghum namely; sorghum grain, sorghum meal, sorghum bran meal and sorghum rice.

  Sorghum grain (Mabele)

This product is mainly sold in bulk to milling companies and local schools who then mill it to produce sorghum meal.

  Sorghum rice (Mosutlhane)
  Sorghum Rice - Mosutlhane

Mosutlhane is produced by dehulling (removal of the husk through a process similar to rice making) sorghum. This product is part of a traditional cuisine which got lost with the influx of foreign foods.

BAMB promotes it as an affordable carbohydrate, which can substitute rice.

  Sorghum bran (Ntlatlawane)

Ntlatlawane is sorghum meal that has sorghum bran added to it.                                          Ntlatlawane is also part of traditional cuisine that is nutritious and is usually prepared with milk instead of water.

  Sorghum meal (Bopi jwa Mabele)

This is a popular product, usually prepared as porridge which is ideal for breakfast.
